Why Jimbaran works so well as a driving base

Jimbaran occupies the narrow neck of land where south Bali meets the Bukit peninsula. That position is the whole point: the airport is 10-15 minutes north, Uluwatu and the cliff beaches are 30-40 minutes south, and Nusa Dua sits just across the peninsula. You get the beach-and-seafood atmosphere without the isolation of the far Bukit or the congestion of Kuta.

It's also a place where a car changes the experience more than most. Jimbaran itself is spread out — the fish market and warungs at the south end of the bay, the resorts along the shore, and the hillside villas above Jalan Uluwatu are all several kilometres apart. • Nusa Dua — 20-25 minutes across the peninsula for calm water and the resort strip.
• Canggu and Seminyak — 45-75 minutes north depending on the hour; go early or accept the traffic.
