Driving inside it is genuinely easy.

The catch is what surrounds it. Nusa Dua is at the far south of the Bukit peninsula, and almost everything people come to Bali for — Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Canggu, Ubud, the east coast — is a drive away. • Late afternoon westbound traffic toward Jimbaran and the airport builds up predictably. Plan sunset drives early.

• Uluwatu and the cliff temples — around 40 minutes across the Bukit, and much better done on your own schedule than on a fixed tour, especially for the late-afternoon kecak performance.
• Jimbaran — 15-20 minutes for the seafood grills and the bay.
• Padang Padang, Bingin, Balangan, Nyang Nyang — the Bukit's surf beaches, all within 30-45 minutes, most with paid parking at the top of the access path.
• Sanur and Nusa Penida boats — about 30-40 minutes on the toll road.
